YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES 2010-2011

PEACE POSTER
This year’s theme is ‘The Power of Peace’ and kits can now be ordered for $9.95 from Club Supplies for $9.95 plus shipping and handling.
Any group with 11, 12 or 13 year olds on November 15, 2009 can enter this contest. A school with 2 or 3 classes can have 2 or 3 entries if you get a kit for each group. Perhaps Sunday School groups should be given the opportunity to display their views in chalk, pencil, water, etc. School teachers are often overwhelmed with all the contests presented to them so let’s reach out to the many other community organizations such as Scouting programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, dance, Martial Arts classes, etc.

Lion Shirley Dillman will have kits available after February 1, 2009 for $10.00. She will also come to your school or youth group to help promote this valuable contest.

LEOs
It’s exciting to know Dist 2-S3 has the most LEO Clubs in the state and so many partnering with the sponsoring Lions Club. As many Clubs say, “I don’t know what we Lions would do without our LEOs assisting” or “We couldn’t do the Wurstfest or Weiner Dog Days without our LEOs. Thank you to the many great LEO Advisors. They are truly our unsung heroes for all the extra time and energy needed to keep up with tomorrow’s leaders.

AWARDS
Now is the time to plan awards for our many dedicated Lions and LEOs to be recognized and awarded for their dedication ‘To Serve”.
I) Lions Young Leaders In Service — 50 hours
2) Lions Young Leaders in Service Gold Seal Award — 100 hours
3) Lion young Ambassadors of the 21 Century Award — demonstrated excellence in community service, leadership, personal interview skills, speech presentation and academics.
4) LEO of the Year — Form and documentation including reports, photos, newspaper articles, etc that support the nomination must be given to DG Charles Handrick prior to April 1, 2009 for presentation at the 4th Council of Governor’s meeting.
5) Serving Together Banner Patch - LEO Clubs that complete a joint project with their Lions Club sponsor (a service project, meeting, or participation in each others’ activities) can apply for this patch (Leo-ST)
6) LEO Years of Service Transfer Program

CONTESTS
Please help determine how we can encourage youth to participate in the speech, essay and outstanding youth contests. At this point I hear most Lions suggesting we increase the scholarship amounts. I’m certain there are other options also. Please respond to Lion Shirley Dillman or VDG Larry Nicholson
